Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"
For our third stop on our Charlie Chan Tour for 2013 is going to be a birthday party for J. Carrol Naish, the television Charlie Chan! We will be sharing TWO episodes from "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan," starring J. Carrol Naish as Charlie Chan with the venerable James Hong as Number One Son, BARRY!. This 1957 TV crime drama consists of 39 episodes, each being about 25 minutes in length. In a way it picks up where the Monogram series left off with all but five adventures being shot in britain and Europe, which was the plan for the Monograms had the series not abruptly ended due to financial considerations brought on by the devaluing of the English pound around 1949. There is even something of a line of "pedigree" as J. Carrol Naish appeared a major role in "Charlie Chan at the Circus" with Warner Oland in 1936. Also, there is one episode of "The New Adventures" in which both Victor Sen Yung (briefly!) and Philip Ahn, both Chan film series veterans, appear. The two episodes that we will be viewing are "Three Men on a Raft" and "No Future For Frederick." Both of these adventures feature Chan working alone without the help of his Number One Son.
So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located HERE at our Charlie Chan Family Home. Please use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our features exactly 30 minutes later.
Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted adventures, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. (Many of our films, such as this week’s entries, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube. Happily, a good number of “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan” are available at YouTube.
Thank you so much, and let’s meet for yet another fun Monday evening as we gather to watch “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan.”
