1987 Puma GTC

When I got my Puma the transaxle was out of it --so I sent it out to be gone through ---got it back and put it in and now I find that the gear shift rod in the tunnel will not reach the trans shaft---- has anyone else had this problem and is their A fix for it ---Thank you Harvey Montgomery

Re: 1987 Puma GTC

If yours is like mine, the "stock" unit had a threaded end. does your rebuilt unit have the same one?

Re: 1987 Puma GTC

no all looks the same as for beetle standard coupling just about 4" short and the trans shaft does not come out to the opening in the top of the tunnel it is back in about 2"----very strange

Re: 1987 Puma GTC

Re-check for something silly and stupid. The transmission mounts on correctly? Changed the front mount for a later one?
Good luck!
Jim

Re: 1987 Puma GTC

not silly did that ----the trans won't move any more the the front because the rear of trans is set to the 2 horns withe their mount -----at this point I think I'm going to cut the hole for the coupling access about 2" toward the rear and then just make the shift rod longer.

Re: 1987 Puma GTC

The rear trans support can be mounted backwards. That would push the transmission too far back..
Best regards,
Jim
