Kit or factory

Is there any way to tell the difference between a kit car and one constructed at factory ?
Maybe serial number ?

Re: Kit or factory

If your car was first shipped to Canada, chances are if was completely assembled in the factory. If it was shipped to the US, it as sent here in a giant crate, assembled except for the front axle beam, transmission, and engine. This was to get around the US emission laws at that time. For many of the US cars, a donor car provided the title, and your car may have the VIN plate that reflects this. Another give-a-way for a factory assembled car is if the engine compartment is trimmed off nicely with a special tin between the engine and the body.
Best regards,
Jim
