This week: "Eran Trece" ("There Were Thirteen")

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Only very brave mouse make nest in cat's ear.”

Greetings, as the new year rolls along, and we continue along our Charlie Chan Film Tour 2017!

This week we view “Eran Trece” (“There Were Thirteen”), the Spanish language version of “Charlie Chan Carries On,” starring Manuel Arbo as Charlie Chan. This movie was produced by Fox Films in 1931, and was shot using virtually the same script as was used for the currently lost film “Charlie Chan Carries On,” which starred Warner Oland in his first appearance as Charlie Chan.

As is our custom, we begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, an “extra.”

OUR PRESENTATIONS:
1.“The Landini Murder Case” (part 10) radio program (Runtime: 14:23)
2.“Eran Trece” (1931; Runtime: 79 minutes)

FILM SUMMARY: Inspector Duff, a Scotland Yard detective, and a friend of Charlie Chan, is pursuing a murderer who is a part of an around-the-world tour group. While his ship is docked in Honolulu, the detective is shot and wounded by the killer. With Duff in critical condition, Charlie Chan carries on the pursuit for his fallen friend.

NOTES: “Eran Trece” was the Spanish language version of “Charlie Chan Carries On,” using Spanish-speaking actors and actresses in its cast, and following the original script, with minor changes. This was the only Spanish version of a film from the Charlie Chan series. Some sources erroneously include Luana Alaniz in the cast of “Eran Trece.” In his autobiography, L. B. Abbott notes that he assisted photographer Sidney Wagner on “Eran Trece.” “Eran Trece” was the only Spanish version in the Charlie Chan series

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our “extra,” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 when we roll our featured movie: “Eran Trece.”
