Happy Birthday, James Hong: Two episodes from "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"

Continuing deeper into the month of February along the meandering road of our Charlie Chan Film Tour 2017, our presentation for this week consists of two episodes from “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan,” starring J. Carrol Naish as Charlie Chan, and featuring James Hong as his Number One Son, whose birthday we celebrate! These adventures, 39 half-hour dramas in all, date from 1957, and feature the Chans, father and son, as they travel the world finding adventure at every turn.
As is our custom, we begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, an “extra” in the form of a vintage Charlie Chan continuing radio drama!

EPISODE SUMMARIES:
“The Great Salvos” - Charlie Chan, who is in Washington, D.C. with son, Barry, becomes involved in a case of espionage after plans for a new jet engine are stolen. Suspicion falls on a brother and sister mind reading act from Hungary.
“The Counterfeiters” - Charlie Chan is called to Paris when the Bank of France reports the theft of printing plates used to produce 5,000-franc notes. Chan must rely on connections that date back to the war as he seeks to solve this complex case.
TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our “extra,” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 (EST) when we share our featured presentations from “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan.”
