This week's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The Chinese Cat"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: "Dog cannot chase three rabbits at same time.”

THIS WEEK as Charlie Chan continues in his work for the U.S. Secret Service, the on-hiatus detective takes the time to assist with a puzzling murder case. Soon, Chan, Number Three Son, Tommy, as well as Birmingham Brown (not yet an “official” member of the team) find themselves in great danger as they track down a ruthless gang of diamond smugglers!

As is our custom, we begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, an “extra” in the form of a vintage Charlie Chan continuing radio drama! Following our “extra,” we will collectively run our feature at 8:15!

OUR PRESENTATIONS:

“The Baffling Murder of Colonel Willoughby,“ (part 1) radio program (1936; Runtime: 14:20)
“The Chinese Cat” (1944; Runtime: 65 minutes)
FEATURE SUMMARY: Leah Manning enlists Charlie Chan's help in solving the murder of her stepfather, Thomas, who was found slain in his study. With no concrete leads, the police have given up and only Chan's deducing can refute a scandalous book that blames Mrs. Manning, Leah's mother, for the crime. Number Three Son, Tommy and Birmingham Brown assist the detective as the trail to the identity of Manning's killer leads to a ruthless diamond smuggling gang.

FILM NOTES: This was Monogram's second entry in the Charlie Chan series. The onscreen title is listed as “Charlie Chan in The Chinese Cat.” The working title of the film was “Murder in the Funhouse.”
