Warner Oland Book

Good Morning Everyone,

My name is Geno Cuddy, I have participated in the Monday film viewings in the past and plan on participating tonight. I am so glad to find this site has been moved and has found a permanent home.

I am writing as I am currently working on a book dedicated to the life and career of Warner Oland and I am looking for assistance. I would like to locate and speak with family members, especially Paul S. Oland whom participated in the "Charlie Chan is Missing" documentary on Oland for the 20th Century-Fox set of DVDs released during the latter half of the 2000s. I am also looking for any documents, records and perhaps even some rare and unpublished photographs of Oland that I could utilize for my book. I have reached out to both the Southborough and New Britain historical societies in hopes of locating further documentation and would like to reach out to Rush Glick as well as biographers of other film stars that Oland has worked with to gain a wider picture of the man we've loved as Charlie Chan for decades. This is my first time writing a book, so please be patient with me. I appreciate any help you are able to provide.

Thank you,
Geno Cuddy

Re: Warner Oland Book

Dear Geno,

I wish you well as you begin your noble project. Lou Armagno (HonoluLou) has just published a book regarding the aphorisms as stated by Charlie Chan in the stories by Earl Derr Biggers. It was a lengthy road that took about ten years to reach completion. Of course, if a project is worthwhile, it will entail much work and a lot of patience and persistence. May your work result in the eventual goal you envision!

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Warner Oland Book

I'm really a novice when it comes to the films or actors of Charlie Chan. However, here's a gal, Susan M. Kelly, who wrote about him for the website, IMMORTAL EPHEMERA:

NOTE (from the above link): Susan M. Kelly is a freelance writer who lives and works in Dunellen, New Jersey. Susan is a regular contributor to The Movie Profiles & Premiums Newsletter.

Maybe she can assist?

Also, here's a blog from a supposed distant relative of Oland at Go-To-Hellman.blogspot.com. He has a hotlink to what he says is "an ancestor chart of Warner Oland going back 5 generations." (I didn't check it though):

Good luck, Geno. Lou

Thank you so much Lou for both links.

I have reached out to the fellow who runs the Hellman blog, I hope I receive a response.

Thanks for everything.
