Our Annual CCF Virtual Halloween Party: "Charlie Chan in Egypt"

“Kind thoughts add favorable weight in balance of life and death.” (Charlie Chan - “Charlie Chan in Egypt”)

Horrific greetings, as we prepare to enter that eerie dungeon which serves as our Charlie Chan family Chat Room for a night of mystery and a goodly dose of the supernatural! Yes! It is time again for our Annual Charlie Chan family VIRTUAL Halloween Party! (Virginia has promised us a delectable collection of ghoulish goodies that will ooze from her virtual beverage cart! Consume at your own risk…PLEASE!) Now, what we do, for those victims…I mean, GUESTS…who have not as yet experienced one of our Halloween parties, this is what we do: We arrive INCOGNITO (if you like!), signing in as a character, etc. from any of the Chan film series movies. You may be human or animal, good or evil, as the choice is yours! Please note that more of the popular “costumes” could end up being worn by two or more participants, so, obscure can be good! At the end of our evening, we will reveal our true identities…unless you discern the truth earlier! Our film for this night of horror will be “Charlie Chan in Egypt,” with Warner Oland, who, himself played a prominent role in a famous “monster” film!

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

SUMMARY: Charlie Chan travels to Egypt on behalf of the French Archeological Society to investigate Professor Arnold's excavation of Ahmeti's tomb, as artifacts from the tomb have been found in other museums, contrary to the agreement that Arnold had made with the Society. When the archaeologist disappears during the excavation of other ancient art treasures, Chan must sort out the stories of the archaeological team to find out why priceless treasures are ending up in the hands of private collectors, while confronting a series of seemingly supernatural events.

FILM NOTES: The American Film Institute Catalog correctly lists the running time for Charlie Chan in Egypt as 72 minutes. However, recent sources have stated that it is actually 65 minutes in length. The larger figure certainly relates to the original running time, while the smaller running time may indicate that some surviving prints of this film have been shortened. The music and the appearance of the opening title and credits lend further credence to this probability, as the music and accompanying sound of water splashing can be traced to a scene that occurs 51 minutes into the film. It is likely that the original opening title sequence has been lost and the current version was a reconstruction, possibly owing the film having been shortened in length at some point in its existence.

EVEN IF you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, new comers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc.

HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film, “Charlie Chan in Egypt,” IS available at Youtube at this address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYRN0iCQ1s8

NEXT WEEK (Monday, November 2) we will be sharing “Charlie Chan at the Race Track” as we celebrate the running of the Melbourne Cup as seen in our film, and which has become a tradition of long standing for our CCF Chats!

Prepare your virtual costumes, have an eerie and ominous Monday, and let’s all get together for this year’s CCF VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN PARTY…shall we…?

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

Re: Our Annual CCF Virtual Halloween Party: "Charlie Chan in Egypt"

Sounds like a fun event. I work evenings and nights, and I can never "attend" these get-togethers. I hope you all have a "devilishly" fun time.
