Is it a sin?

Is it a sin to feel good about yourself? Is it a sin to want to be happy? I was experiencing a rare bit of relief from depression a few days ago. I was actually feeling a little bit happy. Did I commit a sin? Because my face has now suddenly exploded with acne, which has completely demoralized me again. It's as if God felt that I was becoming "exalted", so He thought it necessary to "humble" me with an outbreak of monsterous zits on my face. I feel so bad about the way that it looks, that I just want to crawl into bed for a month.

Re: Is it a sin?

Tom,

It's definitely not a sin to feel good about yourself. God loves you and wants you to love yourself and be happy. The things that pull us down in life definitely aren't God's Will and we really have no control over them. Satan just steps in and tries to rob us of any happiness or victory we are experiencing. We have to claim God's promises and accept the strength and healing He offers. Hope it doesn't sound like I am over simplifying things but I know He doesn't want you to feel bad about yourself. And He wants all believers be filled with His Joy.

Re: Is it a sin?

Hi Tom,
Proverbs 16:20, James 5:11, John 13:16-17 all talk about being happy. Paul even talks about, "...who will make him glad....." (llCor 2:2). There is also the verse: "...this is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it". It's not a sin to be happy or to love yourself. "....love your neighbor as you love yourself....(Matt 19:19).
When we want our own way instead of God's or we think we are better than others, that is when we are exalting ourself.
Getting zits is just something that happens. You feel bad about the way you look but that's just a normal reaction we all have when these things come along.
Enjoy your happy days. They are a gift from God.
