The weather looked set to be terrible for the race, then the rain stopped and it was apparent it was actually warm. Ground was suitably muddy and led to a few falls due to legs going into the mud so far. I only fell once, but after getting out of the mud I nearly fell over the guy ahead who went into the mud just in front of me. 92 people ran.

My first time doing this race which attracts a fantastic turnout and top class field ... winner did it in 14:26 and top 40 sub 17!! A bit of advice for Striders who do it in the future if your looking for a quick time position at the start is important as it starts with 500m on the track before another 400m of narrow trail. I had a bad position at the start and didn't manage to get into any stride until 1 Half k! Lesson learnt for next time.

The race was a little late starting, but the course proved to be as fast as I remembered. It even measured over 5k on Strava.

No Rest For The Wicked Series - Isle of Man

The Manx version of the Tour of Merseyside, but the name is a giveaway, there's no rest day! I've had quite the week on Island - some brilliant highs, some brilliant scenery which I remember so well from growing up & some very different/difficult terrains in part (Cristina I'll do a write-up for this, the forum space won't do it justice!)

The fell races weren't the worst part (despite the monsoon conditions) the Foxdale 6 Miler was a killer for me - after a deceptively fast couple of miles downhill to begin with, the elevations on the 3rd mile left me and even some of the Island's best runners walking bits of it! There was no hope of shaving any time off my 10K time.

The week is also open to full marathon runners from Sunday's event, as well as the half marathon runners, like myself.
Overall standings, I just fell outside of the Top 10, but I ranked 11/46 of those who completed the week starting with the half marathon (ranked 9th male and 4th senior male)

A superb week. Delighted to have scored some surprise PBs on home turf, but my legs are done - the 34 miles covered this week is enough!

The race looked easy on paper when compared with the Tour of Pendle. Turns out that these things are relative. It is a good route and quite easy to follow (it is unmarked and follows FRA rules). The unmarked nature of the route allowed for me to finish higher up the rankings as at least one runner ahead went the wrong way on the last downhill.

In Neil's words:
"Today was hot, not ideal for a 4.5mile mountain race, but team PLS turned up in great numbers for the Cilcain Moel Famau Mountain Race, well 7 of us anyway.
One of the hardest races I've done with Team PLS, but loved it all the same. It was tough going up Moel Famau in the heat and the finish had a nasty little kick up hill into the village. Mum and dad where there to cheer me home too and hold my bag of course."
