This was another Penny Lane ORC race and had a good turn out which resulted in Penny Lane winning lots of prizes. The A-Race went ok although Andy Biddle did follow a Helsby runner off course. The B-Race was more eventful with Alex and Rob setting the early pace, before they missed a turn and drew a 'Y'. Alex went on to miss another turn. Alex and Rob did finish 2nd and 3rd respectively; just not the PLS ones. Paul Riley did also get lost, but that is to be expected. Ste McNicholas also got lost and fell over; again nothing new. We might have won team prizes in both A and B races, but Cowin was not down as Penny Lane. We did win the team prize in the A race.

Singelloop Utrecht 10k

253rd Colin Walsh 40.45

Claims to be the fastest road 10k in the world. The winner (Benard Kimeli, anyone heard of him?) came in at 27.57! Disappointing not to be quicker myself in such company but I'd had way too much Dutch beer the day before to be best prepared! Also, despite starting in wave 1, I was weaving in and out of people pretty much all the way - no surprise in a field of 6,000 runners.

If anyone fancies a race abroad, I can thoroughly recommend it. Really well supported by the locals and Utrecht is a lovely little town just 20 minutes from Amsterdam on the train.

Really interesting new local trail race, which incorporated various mixtures of terrains, not to mention several rather steep sand dunes to climb. Alas, no results were provided. Already looking forward to next year's race.

Milltown to Moors Oldham Half,

1:55.56 - not chance of a PB on this route! I managed to knock 2 minutes of last years time though.. A really challenging course with over 1100 feet of ascent, the first three miles straight up onto Saddleworth Moor. Even the last half mile to the finish was up a killer of hill!

Simon's face lit up like Gepetto when he realised he was first vet 40. PLS did well all round with Pam taking 1st vet price like Simone for the women. PLS also both the men's and women's team prizes. Nobody fell over; except Jo who did fall over. This was another Penny Lane Off-Road Championship (ORC) counter.

I'd like to claim I never won because I was tired from Standish, but it seemed the majority of people in the race had done a race on Saturday afternoon with Brian for company. Surprisingly the conditions on Sunday were good, for running, and led to the course record being broken. The current course has only been going since 2015.

Dublin Marathon 2017

A great marathon despite some killer hills at mile 10 and 22 - warmer than previous years too but it was near enough to perfect running conditions.
Dublin is one for your bucket list if you haven't tried it.

Couldn't resist posting. One of my favourite races and this year was as spectacular as you'd expect: beautiful mountains (my Garmin made the climb 2800+ ft), brilliant support from locals all around the course, beautifully organised, some thrills and spills on the slippy offroad downhill section at the end... And great performances too. I have no idea how anyone runs under 4 hours - I'll be aiming to do it without walking up the final hill (1 in 8!) next year....

Snowdonia Marathon

Result for Jane Nicholson was 4:53:06 not 4:56

For those who have run a marathon abroad on the same day as xc: you may not be aware of this rule but there is an exception to the normal rule around races held on same day as xc not counting towards the championship.

You are allowed one race on same day as xc as long as it's a marathon (nothing shorter, sorry) and it is outside of the UK. So if you do want to use your time for the championship and your race qualifies you can do so.

Sorry Jane - I must have copied down gun time instead of chip time or something.
