In 1943 Toler was 69 years old not 54. It is very interesting he would lie about his age like that. My guess is that he was trying to minimize the huge age gap between himself and his bride.

I'd be curious as to what attracted this young lady to a man much her senior.

Maybe she had dollar signs instead of stars in her eyes when they got married?!?!
