Tony started early (was meant to be 20 minutes, but it seems there must have been a delay), so I got to overtake him in my distant chase of first place! The first place runner went on to beat the course record in an impressive 1:36:29. I managed to navigate successfully through the cloud without cheating (using a GPS watch), but came unstuck at some rather stubborn bracken just before the finish. I pondered ploughing through it, but eventually opted to go around. As I reached the gate I saw a runner coming through the bracken. I quickly went through the gate and closed it firmly behind me. Sadly I did not close it firmly enough and the runner came careering past me and took second 🥈 place by 2 seconds. No free post race soup, but then again the race only cost £5. The notable detail regards entries, of which there were only 32, was that 16 were women.
