Hello Marty, I\'m glad to see this site up and running again, the last time I posted was on May 27th, 2015 and then it seemed to have shut down. I only wish that some of the folks that I grew up with could see this site and respond in there way. Since my last post in May, 2015, I have some sad news to report. My Wife Joyce of (51) years lost her (3) year battle with Cancer, I miss her so much, I struggle every day without her, but I know she is still with me in spirit. I do visit her every day at the cemetery, its my way of keeping close with her, until the day comes when I will be with her again..... Regards, Richie Lucas

Moved into 1484 3rd Ave. in 1947, I was 5 years old, my Mom Elizabeth & my Brother Bob around the time of that big snowstorm. Those were the days...Tommy, Eugene & Phylis Whyte... Sean, Monica & Shelia McGloine... Marie Beatty... Tommy Zimmerman & Patricia his future Wife...Joe & Bill Costello... Jimmy Martin... and then around the corner on 84th (3rd & Lex) Kenny Horgan & Brother (junior) & Sister and the Lopez Family Mary, Francis, Tito & another Brother who were the first family to get a color TV... everyone was friendly with the Lopez family...Vito the chicken guy on third ave.... everyone knew he was taking numbers for the guys uptown, Vito bought me a cheap bike and sometimes he would give me a brown paper bag filled with receipts to take uptown to 116th street (candy store) go to the back of the store and give it to the Big Fat guy, he would give me a couple of bucks (big money back then) and then I would go back to Vito and give him his bike back and he would give me a couple of bucks...not too bad for a kid around 9-10 years old :-)..... then later on 1957 started hanging out around on 81st 2nd & 3rd... then later on around 1959 started to hang out at the East End Bowl... a Lot of good people there Brothers Jimmy, Brian, Kevin Sullivan Tom Healey from around 92nd St. & 3rd Ave. also Paddy & Dennis Flood... I found out later in time that Paddy died in 1983... Rae Rae the bar maid... and all the rest of the folks down there... eventually we all got married...moved out of Yorkville and in time the Bowling alley closed down... a lot of good memories and friends were made there... those were the days!!! Come on people, there has to be someone out there that knows me and the people that I mentioned above....I left out many names, I\'m getting older, my memory is not the same...will be 73 in January 2015 and still kicking :-)

Growing up in the 1970\'s when my parents were the superintendents of our building, 401 E. 68th Street and also the 359 Building which was directly across from us on First Ave. On the corner of 68th and First was the Acropolis Coffee Shop (owned by Telly Savalas!) and a few doors down from that was Alto\'s Pizza, Helen\'s Gift Shop, Mr. Klein\'s Deli, 68th St Florist, and Burnstein\'s Pharmacy on the far corner. Gleasons Pub was on the other side of First Avenue and 2 blocks down, on 66th I think, was Flannagan\'s Pub...I was born at New York Hospital and spent 15 years of my life surrounded by a great group of people and a wonderful area to grow up.

Loved that neighborhood. It was all family! No matter who you were everyone looked out for everyone else. Married Jimmy Day from from East 88th St. in 1963. Close friends were Elaine Gaynor, Bridget Weiss. After divorce later on hung out at the Broken Drum, and Joe\'s Place. Then left the neighborhood and moved to Staten Island. now live in SC. I can\'t remember a lot of names and many were a bit older than me, but I bet I knew some of the people on here. This is a great site, brings back so many memories of the \"Old Neighborhood\"..
